A cross-border epidemic of several serotypes of Salmonella enterica has been ongoing in Europe since 2023. The outbreak is associated with the consumption of germinated seeds. This is a long-term multi-serotype outbreak that has spread across borders. The Authority has issued a rapid outbreak assessment. Consumption of sprouted seeds is a major risk factor. The epidemic has been ongoing since 2023.
