A high-dose flu vaccine has been tested to reduce the number of hospitalizations in vaccinated individuals. The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The high-dose vaccine elicits a stronger immune response compared to the standard-dose vaccine. In the elderly, vaccination with the high-dose vaccine resulted in a greater reduction in the risk of hospitalization due to influenza. The results showed that the high-dose vaccine is safe and well tolerated. The most common side effects were muscle aches, fatigue and fever. The study did not confirm a significantly higher incidence of serious adverse events with the high-dose vaccine. The results support the use of high-dose vaccine in the elderly to reduce hospital admissions due to influenza.
