The study evaluated the effect of a 4-week structured community-based education program for the elderly (SCOPE) on empathy, emotional intelligence, and caring behavior in 190 nursing students. Participants were divided into an intervention group (96 students) who completed the SCOPE program and a control group (94 students) with standard training. The SCOPE program included aging simulations, clinical laboratories, standardized patient scenarios, and supervised community placements. The results showed significant improvements in empathy (from 81.25 to 94.90) and emotional intelligence (from 177.72 to 204.77) in the intervention group, which persisted after 8 weeks of follow-up. The control group showed only minimal progress. Improvements were mainly related to cognitive empathy and emotional perception. The study confirmed that the SCOPE program effectively increases the humanistic competencies of nursing students and recommends its integration into the curriculum.
