SAPHO syndrome is a rare aseptic inflammatory disease affecting the skin and bones, the exact causes of which are unknown. Treatment is mostly symptomatic and includes medication, but symptoms often return or worsen after treatment is reduced. Recently, there have been reports of a positive therapeutic effect of tonsillectomy (surgical removal of the tonsils) in the treatment of SAPHO syndrome. This article reviews the available evidence for the use of tonsillectomy in SAPHO and explores the possible mechanisms by which this procedure could affect the course of the disease. The review was conducted using multiple databases including PubMed and Google Scholar. Tonsillectomy is usually used for chronic inflammation of the tonsils, and its use in SAPHO represents a new direction in treatment. The goal is to find more effective and permanent treatment methods for patients with SAPHO syndrome.
