New research has investigated the treatment of glioblastoma – an aggressive brain tumor – using a simple combination of resveratrol and copper. The researchers found that this treatment resulted in dramatic reductions in tumor aggressiveness, cancer biomarkers, immune checkpoints, and stem cell-related markers with no side effects. The approach is based on eliminating cell-free chromatin particles released from dying cancer cells that normally inflame and worsen the disease. According to research, resveratrol has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anti-tumor effects and is able to penetrate the brain. The findings suggest that low-cost nutraceuticals could change the approach to cancer therapy in the future. The research challenges the traditional medical assumption that cancer must be attacked with aggressive treatments in order to be cured.
