Generic liraglutide is an often overlooked but important drug used to treat obesity and type 2 diabetes. Studies show that liraglutide leads to a significant reduction in body weight, with some groups achieving a weight loss of more than 16 kg. In addition to weight reduction, it has a positive effect on cardiometabolic parameters, including improving the lipid profile and reducing the level of glycated hemoglobin. However, a higher incidence of side effects such as increased heart rate and the formation of gallstones has been reported in the treatment. Liraglutide belongs to a group of GLP-1 receptor agonists that also have the potential to improve outcomes in patients with heart failure. Adherence to treatment is relatively high, although side effects can affect adherence. Generic liraglutide thus remains an important option in the treatment of obesity and diabetes that deserves more attention.
