Despite advances in the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, the disease remains the leading cause of death from an infectious disease in the world. The WHO Global Tuberculosis Report 2025 shows that progress towards ending the tuberculosis epidemic and the Sustainable Development Goals are lagging behind. Projections suggest that these goals will not be achieved until mid-century. In 2023, there were 10.23 million cases of tuberculosis and 1.23 million people died, including 160,000 people living with HIV. The global response to tuberculosis is off track and requires urgent priorities to end it as the world's biggest infectious disease killer.
