A study conducted in 56 primary care clinics in Colorado evaluated the implementation of a comprehensive multifaceted care process focused on prioritizing patient weight management. The results showed that this intervention significantly improved patient weight outcomes compared to usual care. The study was randomized with a stepped wedge, which allowed for a gradual introduction of the intervention and a comparison of effectiveness. Patients who received care according to the new process achieved better results in weight reduction. This approach included coordinated care, education, behavioral interventions, and support in choosing treatment options. The results suggest that a systematic focus on weight management in primary care can be effective and contribute to improving the health status of overweight or obese patients. The study supports the integration of such processes into routine clinical practice as part of comprehensive obesity treatment.
