The study analyzes the adoption of electronic drug labeling (ePI) worldwide based on data from 182 countries, collected between January 2, 2024 and April 7, 2025. ePI provides the most up-to-date approved information about a drug by package code or locator, in formats ranging from PDF to HTML/XML. Countries are in various stages of implementation, including pilot programs. A hybrid approach with printed leaflets and electronic information prevails, although most countries still require paper documentation. The most common technical solutions are QR codes on the outer packaging (74.7%) and PDF format (67.3%). e-tagging allows information to be updated in real time, promotes sustainability and improves the supply chain. Global adoption requires cross-regional knowledge exchange and stakeholder collaboration.
