Dendritic fibromyxolipoma (DFML) is a benign lipomatous tumor with a characteristic morphology that can be confused with other mesenchymal tumors due to its rarity and appearance.[7] The patient was a 39-year-old man with a palpable lesion in the left breast area, present approximately 1 year before the diagnosis; CT showed a fat-dense nodule in the left mammary region.[7] The initial clinical impression was gynecomastia, and a local excision of the left breast tissue was subsequently performed.[7] Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of DFML in this patient.[7] Postoperative follow-up for 38 months showed no tumor recurrence in this patient.[7] The authors performed an analysis of 95 previously documented cases of DFML in the literature.[7] Based on pathological and clinical data, the authors recommend that the WHO reclassify DFML as a mucinous subtype of spindle lipoma, which they say would improve understanding of the disease and reduce the risk of misdiagnosis as malignancy.[7] Complete surgical excision of DFML generally does not result in recurrence, according to findings reported in the article.[7]
