A ten-year study of nearly 10,000 women age 65 and older found that women who drank tea had slightly higher bone mineral density (BMD) at the hip compared to women who did not drink tea.[1] Moderate coffee drinking did not cause any harm to bone density.[1] High coffee intake, more than five cups per day, was associated with lower bone density.[1] This negative effect of coffee was more pronounced in women with higher lifetime alcohol consumption.[1] Catechins in tea support bone formation.[1] The tea has been shown to be particularly beneficial for women with obesity.[1] Thus, small daily drinking habits can affect bone health in older women.[1]
