Researchers have discovered a hidden molecular "switch" that herpes viruses rely on to invade cells. Using artificial intelligence, simulations and laboratory experiments, they identified one amino acid that they changed. This change blocked the entry of the virus into the cells. A process that would previously have taken years was made much faster by computational tools. The findings open up new possibilities for designing antiviral treatments.
