This retrospective single-center study compared 39 multiple myeloma patients treated with liquid Kangfuxin plus standard cryotherapy with 43 controls treated with standard oral cryotherapy alone[1]. Patients in the experimental group had a higher mean age (p = 0.003) and a longer time of neutrophil and platelet engraftment (p = 0.001 and p < 0.001)[1]. The experimental group had a significantly lower incidence of infections (p = 0.001) and lower degrees of mucositis and diarrhea (p = 0.046), which the authors interpret as the immunoprotective effect of Kangfuxin liquid[1]. The cost of adjuvant treatment was lower in the Kangfuxin group (p < 0.0001)[1]. The authors reported no other adverse effects associated with Kangfuxin, and the efficacy of the treatment of the primary disease was not affected according to the study[1]. Conclusions of the study indicate that Kangfuxin liquid reduces mucosal damage, shortens hospitalization and reduces the cost of care in autologous transplantation in patients with multiple myeloma[1].
