The UK government plans to move asylum seekers from hotels to large military premises and barracks. These premises include the RAF Wethersfield site and two other military sites in Inverness and East Sussex. Since the beginning of the use of large areas for asylum accommodation, there have been reports of deteriorating mental health and suicidal thoughts among the accommodated persons. A new report by Freedom from Torture, A Place for Healing, reveals the damage caused by inadequate asylum housing for the recovery and rehabilitation of torture survivors. Many torture survivors are forced to live in completely inappropriate conditions. A clinician working with these individuals warns of the dangers of this procedure.
