The People's Health Movement (PHM) is now 25 years old. Its strength is its broad view of health and the determinants of health. In its People's Charter for Health, it highlights the economic, social, political and environmental challenges to health. These include war, violence, conflict and natural disasters. It calls for the creation of a people-centred health system. Governments should support, fund and deliver comprehensive primary health care as the most effective way to address health problems. They should organise public health services to ensure free and universal access.
