The repeal of the healthcare AI transparency rule means that healthcare organisations will take responsibility for vetting AI tools. These systems will have to be self-checked for safety and reliability by healthcare facilities. The rule originally imposed a transparency obligation on manufacturers of AI products. The repeal will shift the entire burden to health system operators. Health systems will thus lose support from outside regulation in vetting AI.
