In August 2025, there was a shooting at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta, where gunman Patrick Joseph White fired more than 180 shots and shattered approximately 150 windows on four buildings.[1][4] The attack injured no CDC employees, but killed police officer David Rose.[1][2] The shooter, a 30-year-old man from Kennesaw, blamed the COVID-19 vaccine for his depression and suicidal thoughts, which was confirmed by his father and documents found at his home.[1][5] White was stopped by CDC guards and then moved to a nearby CVS pharmacy, where he died of a gunshot wound from his own weapon.[1][2] CDC employees were left terrified, the union called for beefed-up security, and window repairs could take weeks to months.[1][4]
