An article from the New England Journal of Medicine (Volume 394, Issue 1, January 1, 2026) addresses the question of who can see their primary care physician (PCP). In Massachusetts, Governor Maura Healey signed into law Chapter 343 of 2024 in January 2025, which established a 25-member task force on access, delivery, and financial sustainability of primary care. The task force is to define primary care services, develop standardized data reporting requirements for payers and providers, set primary care spending targets for public and private payers, and design payment models to increase reimbursement. Further, it is to assess the impact of health plan design on health equity and patient access, monitor the needs of Massachusetts residents, and develop plans for primary care workforce development. The goal is to stabilize and improve access to primary care, which is expected to yield cost savings and strengthen the workforce.1
