Gaza residents are surviving in makeshift shelters after heavy rains, flooding and freezing temperatures caused sewage overflows. These conditions have led to a high incidence of respiratory infections and hypothermia. At least 25 people have died in recent weeks as a result of the extreme weather conditions. Among them was a 29-day-old baby who died of hypothermia. The baby boy died two hours after arriving at the children's ward of Nasir Hospital in southern Gaza, which is supported by Doctors Without Borders. Despite the best efforts of the staff, he could not be saved. MSF nursing team leader Bilal Abu Saada said that children are losing their lives for lack of basic survival items and even the best efforts are not enough.
