The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has begun reviewing thousands of backlogged research proposals. On the first day, they provided funding to 135 proposals. The delays were related to DEI-related grants. There was a settlement between the NIH and the groups that sued the Trump administration for illegal delays in reviewing the grants. The administration canceled review panel meetings and delayed decisions on billions of dollars worth of approved applications. The agreement provides for the resumption of review of critical medical and public health research grants. These measures address delays in application, review, and award processing between January and May 2025.
