An MIT study showed that a high-fat diet gives liver cancer a dangerous head start. Eating fatty foods for long periods of time causes metabolic stress to liver cells. These cells then abandon normal functions and go into a primitive survival state. This regime helps them to endure harsh conditions. Gradually, the liver becomes less functional. At the same time, its susceptibility to tumours increases significantly. This explains why fatty liver disease often precedes liver cancer.
