Israel has announced the suspension of more than twenty humanitarian organizations, including Doctors Without Borders and CARE, in the Gaza Strip due to non-compliance with new registration rules[2][3]. Israel's new registration requirements for international NGOs threaten to deprive sets of thousands of people in the Gaza Strip of access to life-saving health care from 1 January 2026[2]. Doctors Without Borders warns that its work supports nearly 500,000 Gaza Strip residents, and its loss would be a catastrophe given the utterly destroyed health care system in the region[2]. The organisation stresses that with the devastation of the health system in Gaza, the loss of the ability of independent humanitarian organisations to provide aid would be a disaster for Palestinians[2]. Doctors Without Borders calls on the Israeli authorities to allow international NGOs to continue to provide impartial and independent aid in the Gaza Strip[2]. If organisations lose access to the Gaza Strip in 2026 as a result of Israeli measures, a significant proportion of its population would lose access to essential health care, water and life-saving assistance[2].
