The controversial Pathways study, which is evaluating the effect of puberty blockers on gender nonconforming young people, has been suspended due to concerns over the welfare of participants. The study is being conducted by King's College London. The UK medicines regulator MHRA has written to the institution to discuss amendments to the trial protocol. The MHRA believes that these changes will lead to the study being stopped. In December, the Bayswater Support Group, representing 800 parents of children and young adults identifying as transgender, sent a pre-litigation letter to the MHRA, subject to a judicial review if the study was not stopped. The MHRA emphasized that the pause was related to scientific and welfare concerns and was not a direct result of the legal action.
