The study compared health complications in women giving birth for the first time (nuliparous) and women who had previously given birth (multiparous) during a full-term pregnancy at 37-41. weeks. 49,935 live births from 18 hospitals in South China were included in the analysis, of which 44.18% were from nulliparous women and 55.82% were from multiparous women. Multiparous women had a 44% lower risk of maternal complications compared to nulliparous women and also a lower incidence of other complications. The most common problems in newborns were macrosomia (larger fetus) and low birth weight in both groups. After accounting for other factors, there was no statistically significant difference in neonatal complications between the groups. The conclusion of the study confirms that women giving birth for the first time have a higher risk of maternal complications than women with previous experience of childbirth.
