Seasonal influenza in the US is on the rise in the 2025-2026 season, with 14.8% testing positive at week 50 of 70,675 samples tested.[1] Influenza virus A, especially subtype A(H3N2), predominates.[1][3][4] Week 50 hospitalizations reached a rate of 3.5 per 100,000 population, for a total of 3,833 confirmed cases since October.[1] At week 49, 6884 hospitalizations were reported for a rate of 2.0 per 100,000 population.[2] The CDC estimates 4.6 million cases of influenza and 1,900 deaths, including three children.[5] Three pediatric deaths have been confirmed this season.[1] High or very high levels of influenza are reported in 17 US jurisdictions.[5] Influenza activity is also increasing in the Northern Hemisphere, with A(H3N2) predominating.[4]
