A switch to trivalent vaccines is recommended for the 2025/2026 influenza season, as the European Medicines Agency has proposed to remove the B/Yamagata lineage antigen.[1] Vaccination against influenza reduces the risk of illness, complications, worsening of the underlying disease and death.[1][7] Vaccines such as Influvac are suitable from 6 months of age, the price for self-payers is around 620-630 CZK including the application, and Efluelda from 60 years of age for around 1336 CZK.[2][3][6] Adults and children with previous vaccinations receive 1 dose, children under 9 receive 2 doses for the first time with a minimum interval of 4 weeks.[1][5][7] The ideal time to vaccinate is between October and December, but it is also possible later, especially in the elderly.[1] Vaccination is covered by the insurance company for risk groups, including patients with chronic diseases of the heart, blood vessels, respiratory tract, kidneys, diabetes, weakened immunity, after splenectomy or transplants.[2][3][4] An immune response develops within about 2 weeks after vaccination.[3] Annual vaccination is necessary due to the decline of immunity and changes in circulating strains.[1][5]
