Doctors Without Borders (MSF) teams welcomed the first babies of 2026 in supported hospitals around the world just after midnight on January 1. At Goyalmara Hospital in Bazar, Bangladesh, baby Happy Rodura was born five minutes after midnight. Mohammed was born at Boost Hospital in Helmand, Afghanistan, weighing 3kg. Malik, Sara's fourth child, was born at Zalingei Hospital in Central Darfur, Sudan. Sara and her husband fled El Fasher, a Sudanese war zone, five months ago to find a safer place for the children. They long to return to El Fasher when it is safe to meet the family. Many women in conflict areas give birth in overcrowded camps.
