Senators Ron Wyden and Elizabeth Warren are expanding UnitedHealth's investigation into nursing homes. The investigation focuses on allegations that UnitedHealth improperly limited hospitalizations among some people who are insured in its Medicare plans. The investigation is part of a broader review of UnitedHealth's operations by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) involving suspected Medicare fraud, including the alleged use of inaccurate diagnoses to obtain billions of dollars in public funds.[1][2] UnitedHealth is the largest provider of Medicare Advantage plans in the United States, which are extremely profitable for private insurance companies.[2] The company has not yet been accused of wrongdoing, and the existence of an investigation does not automatically mean that any charges will be brought.[1]
