A fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po broke out on the afternoon of 26 November 2025 on the lower floor of a 32-storey public housing estate, consuming seven of the eight residential towers[1] within hours. Firefighters brought the fire under control more than 24 hours later, with the operation lasting 43.5 hours[1]. The disaster claimed 161 lives, including one firefighter, and 79 others were injured[1]. It was the deadliest fire in Hong Kong since 1948, when the Wing On housing estate burned down, killing 176[1]. The fire affected nearly 2,000 homes and led to the largest evacuation in the city's recent history[1]. The tragedy revealed the risks associated with living in tall buildings, which become danger zones when fire safety fails[1].
