The BMJ Annual Appeal 2025–26 supports the work of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which provides emergency health care in more than 70 countries around the world.[5][6] MSF teams provide maternity care, epidemic management and life-saving operations in conflicts, refugee camps and after natural disasters.[3][5][6] MSF data shows that the number of children under 14 treated for malnutrition (both inpatient and outpatient) has tripled in five years from around 60,000 in 2020 to over 200,000 in 2024.[3] Children with acute malnutrition make up a significant proportion of patients, especially in MSF's pediatric programs in Africa.[3] The call emphasizes that effective humanitarian medicine is not only about saving lives, but also about dignity and palliative care where a cure is no longer possible.[3] Therefore, MSF is also developing new tools and innovative approaches to help health workers in difficult conditions better manage the suffering of patients and support their families.[3]
