The article describes CDMOs (contract drug development and manufacturing partners) reassessing their heavy reliance on supplies from China. The reason is the effort to strengthen the security and resilience of the supply chain. Therefore, CDMOs are increasingly turning to nearshoring, i.e. moving production or supplies to geographically closer countries. At the same time, they also use friendshoring, that is, building supply chains in countries with a politically and economically friendly environment. These approaches are intended to reduce the risks associated with geopolitical tensions and dependence on one distant region. The article highlights that this is a strategic change in supply chain management in the CDMO sector. It does not describe specific numbers or statistics.
