Former Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at NIH, Eric D. Green, will become the new chief medical officer (CMO) of Illumina, as reported by STAT+'s The Readout newsletter.[1] Green led NHGRI as director from 2009 to 2025, more than 15 years.[3][4] According to the article, as CMO at Illumina, he will serve as a key scientific and medical leader to help advance the clinical applications of genomics and precision medicine.[2][3] He will also be responsible for supporting the increasing diversity of genomic data, which is important for representative research and medical use of genomic information.[2][3][4] Green joins Illumina after more than three decades at NHGRI and NIH, where he helped advance genomics from a research discipline to a fundamental part of modern medicine and public health.[2][3] In the announcement, Illumina highlights its many years of experience in the field of genomics and in collaboration with the scientific, clinical and public health communities.[2][3][4]
