The article describes how the refugee crisis led to significant modernization of tuberculosis diagnosis, treatment and prevention in Poland. Changes in the care system were set to better cover the needs of refugees, but at the same time improve the availability and quality of care for Polish citizens as well. Screening programs have been expanded and made more effective, especially in groups at higher risk of infection, including newly arrived refugees. The capacities of specialized tuberculosis departments were also strengthened and coordination between health facilities was improved. The article states that the emphasis was also placed on prevention and early detection of the disease in order to reduce its spread in the population. The refugee crisis thus not only brought a higher number of examinations among migrants, but also became an impetus for the overall strengthening of the Polish tuberculosis care network.
