The conflict in Sudan has reached its 1,000th day, with more than 20 million people in need of medical aid and 21 million in need of food, making the country the world's worst humanitarian crisis. This year, 33.7 million people will need humanitarian aid. The health system is damaged by fighting, attacks on health services, displacement and lack of staff or funding, with 37% of health facilities not functioning. Since April 2023, WHO has verified 201 attacks on health care, which have caused 1,858 deaths and 490 injuries. 13.6 million people are displaced, the largest crisis of its kind, and epidemics of cholera (all 18 states), dengue (14 states) and malaria (16 states) are spreading. WHO delivered 3,378 tonnes of medical supplies worth US$40 million, vaccinated 24 million people against cholera and provided care to more than 3.3 million people, including 112,400 malnourished children. WHO calls for safe access, more funding and a ceasefire.
