Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients' smartphones may serve as an early warning system before disease flare-ups. Researchers from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, led by Kaleb Michаud, studied nearly 300 patients with RA who allowed data to be monitored from their phones. The study found that changes in smartphone use and physical activity can indicate an impending worsening of the disease state. Early warning of a flare-up could allow patients to seek medical help more quickly and prevent disease progression. This method represents a new approach to monitoring rheumatoid arthritis without the need for invasive tests. Research points to the potential of wearable technologies and smartphones in personalized medicine and long-term care for patients with chronic diseases.
