In Iran, doctors are under attack and hospitals are overwhelmed with patients during anti-regime protests that broke out in late December 2025[2][3]. Human rights groups say at least 500 people have been killed in the crackdown on protests, with some sources putting the death toll in the thousands.[2][3] Iranian security forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, used live fire against the protesters, hitting many people in the eyes with small bullets aimed at the crowds[2]. Hospitals are overburdened, blood supplies are running out and morgues are full[2]. Security forces also broke into hospitals, where they arrested injured protesters and attacked medical personnel[4]. The Internet was practically shut down and telephone communication was limited, making it difficult for the flow of information on the actual number of victims[3].
