Sales of non-alcoholic and low-alcohol (nolo) beverages have increased significantly in recent years due to improved production techniques and consumer demand for healthier alternatives to alcoholic beverages. The term "nolo" refers to variants of standard alcoholic beverages, such as beer, wine or spirits, with little or no alcohol content. In the UK, this content does not exceed 1.2% alcohol by volume (ABV). Nolo beverages have the potential to improve public health if consumed by people instead of alcoholic beverages, especially heavy drinkers, people from lower socioeconomic groups, or in at-risk situations. Replacing alcoholic beverages with nolo reduces the risk of alcohol-related illnesses and injuries. This effect is especially pronounced during pregnancy, driving or in adolescence. Nolo drinks are different from reduced strength drinks.
