Industrial action has become a regular part of NHS life. Since March 2023, repeated strikes by junior doctors have affected the operation of hospitals and the training of medical students. Students in the clinical years face ongoing uncertainty around placement with little warning and limited insight. The final-year medical student at Lancaster has had several placements disrupted by the strike in various ways. Some placements have been canceled entirely. Others moved forward, but in a fundamentally different form from the original plan. At this stage of training, placements are for practical exercise and confidence building. The disruption has both a logistical and an educational impact. An example is the third-year pediatrics internship, where there was a change just before 10:00 p.m.
