The California Department of Health has warned against seeking out the mushrooms because of links to three deaths, three liver transplants and 35 hospitalizations in the state. Fungi are associated with severe liver damage that may require a transplant. Cases of mushroom intoxication are increasing at UNLP Košice, where 11 people were hospitalized in the last two weeks, seven of them in the ICU. In one case, it was poisoned by green toadstool, which causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps and abdominal pain. The difficulties may ease after 1-2 days, but on the 4th-5th. day, coma, liver and kidney failure occur. If poisoning is suspected, it is necessary to immediately seek medical help and take samples for toxicological analysis. Liver transplantation is the only curative method for terminal liver failure. In Slovakia, 40 liver transplants were performed in 2023.[1][2][3][4][5]
