Reimagining medical education: integrating medical humanism and narrative medicine into a new educational paradigm

Medical education increasingly emphasizes technological competence at the expense of humanistic values ​​important for patient-centered care. This mini-review explores the integration of medical humanism and narrative medicine into contemporary medical education to balance technical expertise and humanistic care. Current evidence shows that narrative medicine improves empathy, communication skills, professional identity and ethics. However, integration efforts are fragmented and limited by curriculum overload, insufficient faculty training, and misaligned assessment systems. Incorporating narrative medicine into the core curriculum, supported by interdisciplinary collaboration, long-term programs, and rigorous assessment frameworks, offers a path to a more holistic and sustainable paradigm of medical education.
