Claims linking paracetamol to autism in children are spreading on social media.[1] However, experts emphasize that the real danger of Tylenol lies in overdose.[3] Acetaminophen, the main ingredient in Tylenol and many cold and flu medications, is one of the leading causes of emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and acute liver failure in the US.[3][4] Overdose can cause severe liver damage, sometimes requiring a transplant.[3][8] These concerns about autism distract from this proven risk.[1]
