Flu activity in the US has fallen for the second week in a row, according to CDC data.[user] The CDC has designated the current 2025/26 season as moderate, with an estimated 11 million cases, 120,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths.[1] The dominant variant is influenza A (H3N2), which accounts for more than 91% of subtyped cases.[1] In the week ending December 27, 2025, more than 33,000 patients were hospitalized with the flu.[1] Physician visits for respiratory problems accounted for 8.2% of all physician visits.[1] There have been nine flu-related deaths in children this season, including one in December.[1] Experts warn that the season is far from over.[user]
