A new study suggests that small doses of THC could help alleviate the long-term side effects of HIV treatment without intoxicating effects.[9] In animal models, low-dose THC reduced inflammation and improved gut bacteria, contributing to better digestive health.[9] Research has also shown that THC increased serotonin levels and reduced harmful cholesterol and bile acids in the body.[9] A surprising finding was that low-dose THC reduced circulating levels of antiretroviral drugs while maintaining viral suppression, potentially protecting the liver from damage.[9] The researchers say these results point to a promising new approach to managing and treating chronic complications of HIV.[9] Microdosing thus appears to be a promising alternative to higher doses that are used for recreational purposes.
