The study examined the impact of changing blood donation incentive policies in China from a donation model to an honor model that provides honor incentives such as free bus transportation and outpatient consultations in hospitals. The research analyzed data from blood stations in 30 provinces of China between 2012 and 2018 using the method of extended analysis of differences in differences. The honor model increased the number of blood donors by 3.55% by the end of the second year of implementation, and this effect doubled to 7.70% by the end of the fifth year. Most of the increase was due to an increase in whole blood donations of 3.34% in the second year and 7.23% in the fifth year. However, the honor model did not significantly affect the quality of donation, measured by the degree of eligibility of donors. The results were confirmed by additional statistical tests that indicated their reliability. The conclusion of the study is that the honorarium model of blood donation has successfully increased the number of blood donors in China, while the quality of the donation has remained unchanged.
