A report by the American Heart Association (AHA) reveals a decline in deaths from heart disease and stroke in the US[1]. Cardiovascular diseases remain the main cause of death, although they are lower than before[1]. Heart disease and stroke are among the top five leading causes of death, surpassing deaths from all types of cancer and accidental deaths[1]. Cardiovascular disease will cause 941,652 deaths in the US in 2022, an increase of more than 10,000 from the previous year[1]. Every 34 seconds, someone in the US dies of cardiovascular disease, and nearly 2,500 people die this way every day[1]. Factors such as obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure contribute to this problem[1]. The report is part of the annual update 2025 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics published in the journal Circulation[1].
