Colorectal cancer is becoming the leading cause of cancer death among young people in the US, an exception to the overall trend of declining cancer mortality in this age group over the past three decades[1]. The incidence of colorectal cancer in persons aged 20 to 49 years is increasing by 2 to 4 percent each year[1]. Scientists predict that by 2030, this diagnosis could become the leading cause of cancer death in young adults[1]. The most significant increase is recorded in persons under 35 years of age[1]. Compared to people born around 1950, those born around 1990 have twice the risk of colon cancer[6]. In Slovakia, colon cancer is the second most common form of cancer and the third most common cause of cancer death, with approximately 7,200 new cases diagnosed in 2021[1].
