The EU Health Security Initiative is coming to an end.[user content] An online resource remains available to partners and stakeholders as a legacy of the collaboration.[user content] The initiative protects citizens of the EU's neighboring countries from cross-border health threats caused by communicable diseases.[5][7] It is led by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in line with the EU's global health strategy.[3][5] It consists of three pillars: training in interventional epidemiology in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, strengthening infectious disease preparedness and response, and sharing knowledge through regional cooperation.[3] The program includes training solutions, public health capacity building, and activities such as epidemic intelligence, communication exercises, and after-action reviews.[3][4] The aim is to create a competent regional workforce for the prevention and control of communicable diseases in neighboring regions.[4][5][6]
