Beth Israel Lahey Health CEO said investing in primary care is key to the organization's long-term success. Those investments helped the hospital system get back into the black. Beth Israel Lahey Health is a nonprofit integrated health system in Massachusetts with locations in New Hampshire, formed in 2019 through the merger of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. The system includes 10 acute care hospitals, more than 800 employed primary care physicians and 3,500 specialists in Eastern Massachusetts. It has a network of academic and teaching hospitals, community and specialty hospitals, as well as a population health business to improve the quality of care and address chronic disease. In 2023, the system raised $400 million in tax-exempt bonds to purchase, build and expand facilities. The system employs more than 4,700 physicians and 39,000 employees to expand access to care.
