The US FDA has called a public meeting on Thursday to review a new advertising proposal for Zyn, the flavored nicotine pouches. These bags generate billions in sales and have gone viral on social media. The FDA is reviewing the proposal for potential increased publicity for US smokers. Zyn are smokeless and tobacco-free nicotine pouches that are inserted between the upper lip and gum.[1][2] They offer different flavors and nicotine strengths from 1.5 mg to 11 mg.[3] They release an average of 99% less harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes.[2] They may cause side effects such as abdominal pain, dizziness, or nausea.[7]
