In the Nitra region, the incidence of flu and flu-like diseases increased by 130.7 percent, a total of 3,274 acute respiratory diseases were recorded, of which 1,075 were cases of flu.[1] Most patients were in the group of children under five years of age, 86 people had complications, including 38.4 percent of sinus infections, 32.6 percent of pneumonia and 29 percent of otitis media.[1] In the Trenčín region, the incidence of flu increased by 70.25 percent, 641 cases of flu and flu-like diseases were registered, and three kindergartens were closed due to the flu.[1] In total, the incidence of flu-like diseases increased by 31.5 percent, in the Košice region they report a significant increase in respiratory diseases.[1] Compared to the previous one, the 2025/2026 flu season has a slower onset with less acute respiratory diseases.[3] Vaccines in the Northern Hemisphere do not contain the B/Yamagata strain, which has not been detected since March 2020.[2] Influenza vaccination in people over 65 reduces hospitalizations by 60 percent and deaths by 68 percent.[2]
